Born Christopher Baba Choji Gwom on the 18thof September 1976 in Kabong District of Jos-North Local
Government of Plateau State, North-Central Nigeria, “De Prof”(short for Professor, as he is fondly called by friends) has turned out to be
one of the ‘leading lights’ to emerge from this part of the country.
He had his primary education at the RCM School Kabong in
front of his house and went to St. Patrick’s Trade School for his Junior
Secondary Education after which he joined the labour market at the age of 17
years. He worked hard at several jobs but studied harder on his own, until he
wrote and passed the WASSCE (Private) and was admitted to study Mass
Communication in the Prestigious University of Jos (UJ).
His Life-Philosophy is; “Be the best you were created to
be, even as you live a life of service to humanity’”.
He enjoys; Reading and Writing, Singing and Dancing and
‘Problem Solving’.
He is a stanch Promoter of Human Dignity and Integral Human
Development through; Community Mobilization for Peace and Human Rights Advocacy,
Cultural/Arts and Charity.
At the age of 19 years, Chris and 9
others co-founded the Promotional Talent Club (PTC), a non-governmental
youth development organization based in Jos. Approaching Youth Development from
an ‘Art-and-Culture’ perspective he committed himself to nurturing talented
young people both as a trainer and a mentor who firmly encourages decent productivity
in music, film, literature and other art forms.
As a pioneer member of Reggae Club
International (ReCI), Youth Promotion Club (YPC), Performing Musicians
Employers Association (PMAN) on The Plateau, he has been very active in the
promotion of culture for tourism through music festivals, art exhibitions and
other entertainment and cultural events.
Now 37 Chris has gained a wealth of experience
in Development Work and Show Business through his work and
involvement with Family Health International, British Council, World Youth
Alliance, Youngstars Foundation, Society for Family Health, Danish Youth
Partnership, Halt Aids Group, Justice Development and Peace/Caritas , etc either
as a Facilitator, Volunteer, Trainer or Consultant which has earned him severalAwards and Commendations.
His desire is to see a generation of common
people who are conscious of their civic roles and responsibilities and
can organize themselves to articulate their cause and contribute meaningfully
to the integral development of their Communities, States and Nations. |
